Working Out is Fun? What???

He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying.  ~Friedrich Nietzsche

In my skinner life, I was an avid soccer and softball player and swimmer.  I also enjoyed riding my bike as a kid.  In fact, I was outside more often than I was inside.  Of course, moving to the cold North changed things.  I was content to stay inside and do what I could to stay warm.  Partly necessity and partly laziness I guess.  Of course when snow drifts are taller than you are, then I honestly think it is ok to stay inside (and when the windchill is below -30).  On any account, my daughter is the opposite and throws a fit when we have to be inside when she thinks we should be outside.  Lately we have been playing more outside and since the weather is nice, I am more open to working out outdoors.

So what do I mean that working out is fun?  Well, I recently bought a BOB jogging stroller that Chloe loves to be in.  I am not quite jogging yet, but I am walking with her quite a bit.  She enjoys being outside and I prefer walking outdoors to the treadmill.  However, when it is cold and rainy we stay indoors.  On top of my cardio, I have added core strengthening exercises from Core Conditioning and Training .  I just started this past week due to the fact that I was working and traveling so much.  I am now wishing I had started earlier.

I was introduced via the net and a friend, Allison to Ali H. who owns the website and company.  She had great results with her weight loss by going to Ali's boot camp classes so I wanted to hear about and see what it was all about.  I did the two day trial (actually one day) and I was hooked!  I dread doing strength training sometimes but I actually look forward to these workouts.  And YOU CAN FEEL THEM!!!! I am still sore from doing my workout Monday.  I am currently doing the workouts every other day until I get into better shape.  My abs are killing me.  All you need to do the workouts are water, an exercise mat, and an interval trainer. I have also shared her site with several friends.

So I am finding out that working out is fun again.  It wasn't fun beforehand because I was not getting results and no one wanted to see the fat girl out trying to get exercise in.  Plus this fat girl didn't want anyone watching her attempt to exercise only to hear them criticize her.  Thus why I have a Snap Fitness membership that I never use. I had good intentions but being self conscious and embarrassed got the best of me.  On any account, now I not as worried because I am doing this to get healthy not to please people or to be "hot" by any means!!!

This journey is a daily struggle because after awhile it can get exhausting and frustrating to wonder if you have done the right thing.  As predicted by some friends, I have lost many friends in the journey because they either did not support me or they were, in some cases, stabbing me in the back and hypercritical of me.  However, with the bad there is always good!  I have also met MANY supportive people who have let me freak out, cry, and kicked me in the butt when I get lazy... Thank you! If the guilt doesn't get to me, then my friends will!  I have seen and heard of too many people failing after having this surgery and I sure do not want to be labeled a failure.

So yes, working out is fun! Just a quick note.... I dropped and then stupidly opened up a can of Red Bull (sugar free) the other day in church.  I freaked out and RAN to the bathroom to get a paper towel.  Yes I ran and I was amazed at how light on my feet I felt.  People have been complimenting me about my weight loss but now I can feel it.  So bring on the workouts and the challenges, I am MORE than ready!!!! :) Plus my child will appreciate the outside time!

Ami, this a great blog!
You are so right about the need for daily activity. Maintaining metabolic fitness is the key and that can only be done by staying physically active. Physiological age does not have to keep pace with chronological age. My goal is to not run out of function before I run out of years.
I just pains me to go to Walmart and see all the people that are riding around in the motorized carts because they either cannot or will not walk. MOST would not be in that shape if they would have realized years ago that if God had wanted them to walk, He would have given them legs! This why the Big Dog moves off the Porch each day for a work out of some sort.
Staying fit is a daily battle, ans as my mom used to say, "It ain't easy Charlie Brown."
Hang tough, Ami
