So after my surgery, I woke up in recovery and immediately started joking with the nurses. Things got a bit confusing because there were two Amys beside myself. I was started on the pca pump w dilaudid and settled in a long nap. I was in and out but managed to sleep quite a bit while watching Nick at Nite. I had my first walk at 4 am but I knew the key to getting out was to walk, pass gas, and pain management.
The first day was boring because I was loaded w potassium and antibiotics and needed to pee a lot. The ice chips were the best since my mouth was so dry but my throat felt like it was on fire due to the intubation tube. I was told that I needed to drink 1 tbsp of water every 15 minutes and work on my breathing with the spirometer. For the record when I went on my walk I went as fast as was reasonable for someone who was under the influence... The nurses were impressed. That's pretty much all I remember of the first day. As for pain it was nicely managed so I didn't really feel any until the next day when my pca pump was out for 3 hours...
